FAQ 791
I have a problem and I need help. But where should I go if I am not sure which service I need?

It can be difficult to remember all the specialist teams that provide distinctly different types of support. A good first port of call if a student is unsure who to approach is obviously SID. However not all students will want to discuss their problem across a desk in public in order to determine which service they require. This is especially so if the problem is complex or sensitive and personal.

If a student wants to discuss their problem in more depth and more privately they should make an appointment to speak to a Student Engagement Advisor in the first instance. They can do this directly via Student Support or through SID. Appointments can also be offered by telephone.

The Student Engagement Advisor will discuss the problem or difficulty with the student in private and will then be able to suggest any appropriate further support and direct the student towards this. Student Engagement Advisors have a clear role to act as a ‘gateway’ to other support services.
