FAQ 1196
As an apprentice, am I exempt from Council Tax?

Unfortunately, you would not be exempt from council tax as a student as you are on an apprenticeship route and the teaching element is part time.

However you can apply for exemption as an apprentice:

To show that you do not qualify as an adult for Council Tax, you’ll need a declaration from your employer stating that:
· you will not be paid more than £195 a week
· the training leads to a qualification accredited by a body recognised by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) or the Scottish Vocational Education Council (SVEC)

Further details regarding this can be found on the website below:

You will need to submit a copy of your apprenticeship agreement to the council.

You can also log into e:vision, click on the my studies tab and download the registration status document, which can be provided to the Council.
