FAQ 1026
I am interested in doing my PGCE, where can I find more information?

Before choosing a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education), you first need to consider what type of teaching you wish to do, for example; Early Years, Primary, Secondary or Post Compulsory Education. If Secondary or Post Compulsory Education, you also need to decide which subject. The most direct route into teaching is via a PGCE . However, there are other routes so it's a good idea to research first in order to find the one which is most appropriate for you.

The TARGETpostgrad Teaching and Education and Prospects Teacher Training websites both have lots of information on finding out which course is best for you, how to apply and support with applying.

TARGET produce the TARGETpostgrad Teaching publication, which is great to use when thinking about going into teaching and includes details of FE/HE teaching and TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language). This publication is updated annually and free copies are available from the Careers offices at Luton and Bedford Campuses. Alternatively, download from the TARGETpostgrad website: TARGETjobs publications - select the Teaching publication to download.

The UCAS Teaching Training website is where you’d apply for your teaching qualification, there is lots of information on the routes and guidance on how to apply.

The Department for Education Get Into Teaching website has information on the various options including funding.
