FAQ 939
I am having problems connecting to eduroam on my device, what should I do?

Instructions for connecting to eduroam, including login details, are available at
www.beds.ac.uk/contactus/wifi/eduroam. However, some users may encounter problems in doing so, in which case please try the following tips:

Smartphones, tablets and Apple devices

Go into your device's Settings, choose and select the 'eduroam' network from the list of available WiFi networks. Select the 'Forget' option. Then select the network again (you may need to scan for available networks in order to find it) and fill in the connection information as detailed in the link above. This will resolve most problems as long as you are using the correct login details.

Laptops running Windows 7 or 8

It will most likely be necessary for you to add a new wireless network in order to connect to eduroam. If eduroam already appears in your list of available networks, but you cannot connect, you should 'forget' the network first. Full instructions are in the files attached to this FAQ, but the key steps are:

  1. Click on the wireless network icon in the system tray (bottom right of the desktop) and select 'Open Network and Sharing Center'
  2. Select 'Manage Wireless Networks' and click 'Add'
  3. Select 'Manually create a Nework Profile'
  4. Enter the following information:
    • Network name: eduroam
    • Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
    • Encryption type will automatically change to "AES"
  5. Click on 'Change connection settings'
  6. Click on the 'Security' tab and select 'Settings' then 'Configure'
  7. Make sure that 'When connecting' is unticked, click 'OK' then 'OK' again
  8. Click on 'Advanced Settings'
  9. Tick the 'Specify Authentication Mode' box and set the menu to 'User Authentication'
  10. Click 'OK', then 'OK' again, then 'Close'

The network will now appear in the list of wireless networks, can be connected to, and should prompt you for login details after you have done so.
