FAQ 1005
Does my supervisor have to attend the viva?

It is your choice if you would like a member of your supervisory team present at your viva. The Research examinations team will advise you of the arrangements and it is up to you to forward these details to the relevant supervisor if you wish them to be present regulation 4.1.25.7.

If you specifically do no want a member of your supervisory team present at your viva then please advise the RGS Administrator at the point of submission. You are only allowed one member of the supervisory team present during your viva. A Director of Studies (DS) or alternate Supervisor may attend the viva as an observer.

The RGS would strongly encourage you to have your DS or alternate Supervisor present. This is because they are able to take notes throughout your viva. These may prove useful during your corrections stage (if applicable).
